One of the most important things to have as a business owner is vision.
What goals do you have for your business? Where do you want to be 10 years down the road?
Too many business owners forget about the future and focus on running their business in the here and now. While this is important, it is difficult to make strategic decisions for your business if you don't have a concrete idea of where you want to go.
We've all heard the common phrase "dress for the job you want, not the one you have."
The same can be said about building a business. How you act today determines the results you will get tomorrow. Even if you don't feel successful, having faith in your abilities to grow as an entrepreneur and making concrete goals for the future can go a long way to help you achieve them.
Many business owners pigeon hole themselves into a tiny box and don't ever step outside their comfort zone. Have the courage and vision to create a concrete plan for where you want your business to go and what types of customers you want to attract. That way you can focus your business plan and marketing efforts to help your achieve your goals.
If you want to do something powerful for your business today, try this exercise:
Take half an hour and write down a day in the life of your dream company.
How do you start your day?
How do you feel?
What things do you see as you walk in the office?
Who do you talk to and how do you talk to them?
Write down all the things you are doing in a day to keep the ball rolling.
Be as imaginative as you can. Be unrealistic.
Because what you write down, is the absolute most you are ever going to achieve. It's the vision that focuses your attention and allows you to make the decisions day to day that move you toward that goal.
